Keane’s violent yet tender masterpiece tells the story of Bull McCabe, one of the most famous characters in Irish literature, and his fight to resist the changes forced on his small rural community by a rapidly changing Ireland in the 1960.
“This is a parish in which you understand hunger…for food…for home…for love…for children. These things are good. But there is also a hunger for land. Are you prepared to kill for land?”
This new production, directed by Michael Scott and starring Mick Lally as the Bull, sees Scott again team up with Michael McCaffrey who created the celebrated setting for his production of The Matchmaker which received many accolades at the Edinburgh Festival and off-Broadway.
It is said the the play is based on a real story of a land disagreement in Kerry
