and the sworn enemy of the "Mod"

was the ROCKER

and they were  both locked in an implacable conflict

of styles

Quadrophenia is written in the first person voice of "Jimmy" a crazy mixed up kid -  who attempts to find a sense of purpose through the "mod" Movement.

He is fact a distillation of the adolescent neuroses and a composite of the characteristics of the Who themselves .
