Written in 1967, in "The Successful TD" John B. Keane displays his edge for humour and satire that are uncomfortably close the the politics of today ... Peppered with Keane's gallery of madcap characters this shows the audience laughing at politics (in a good way) from the start.
Starring Jon Kenny and Mary McEvoy
Directed by Michael Scott
It took us over a year to create the adaptation. As we all live in different parts of the country , each of us drove about 100 kilometres each day for eight weeks to meet rehearse and finally write the script.
"In politics you never know where the danger will come from. You’ll never know the true mind of the grassroots and there’s noting to stop today’s grassroots becoming tomorrow’s councilor and a man who goes for the County Council can be persuaded to go for the Dail. All he wants is enough persuasion. The Dail is in every man’s head. And why wouldn’t it? Every man, wants to be part of the power that governs him."
"I live by votes, and I often think to myself of turn I did for people - people I placed in cushy jobs for live even - and they wouldn’t give me a vote now -if they were paid for it. Any man with a vote is a man to be respected..."
